From a scanned sample to new mask concepts.

We started from an existing mask, scanned it and rebuilt it as a parametric model. That gave us a base to develop new cushion concepts and print them in our lab.

The brief

Better sealing and retention.

The goal was a mask that seals better and stays in place, built as silicone overmolded onto a hard plastic body.

What we did

How we approached it.

Scan and rebuild

We 3D scanned the original sample and rebuilt it as a parametric CAD model.

Architecture

We laid out the assembly as a silicone cushion overmolded onto a hard plastic body.

Three concepts

We explored an accordion feature, a lip for better sealing and a flange for adhesive and retention, then chose the concept that combined them.

Printed prototypes

We printed translucent and grey prototypes in our lab to check shape and fit.
